What once was the Indy carnival will become a weekend of ‘rock and race’ on the Gold Coast this October when the All Armor Gold Coast 600 hits Surfers Paradise. 18 world-class international drivers will race V8 Supercars at the 19th motor spectacular held in the city.

Not only will the tourist destination have the popular V8 supercars on track, but off track an amazing lineup of Australian music will play live. Empire of the Sun, Ian Carey of Ministry of Sound fame, The Potbelleez, Noiseworks, Richard Clapton, The Angels, Kid Kenobe and Sneaky Sound System have already been confirmed for the weekend, with others sure to join the bill.

Schoolies, Red Frogs and Cutting Binge Drinking

Each year Schoolies imposes upon local Gold Coast residents, however whilst all the media hype is about the negative aspects of Schoolies, it’s important that the hundreds of Red Frog volunteers get acknowledged for their time and support of such an event, in order to make it safer for all those involved. This year Brisbane Broncos player PJ Marsh has joined the Red Frogs in flipping pancakes to encourage the young school leavers that there is fun to be had without alcohol being involved. Latest statistics show binge drinking habits are increasing, and alcohol-related harm is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in Australia, causing around 3,000 deaths and 65,000 hospitalisations every year. With statistics like these, we need more role models for young Australian’s, like PJ Marsh, who along with the Red Frog team, are encouraging Schoolies to have a good time without the need for alcohol.

Gold Coast residents are so lucky to have the gorgeous hinterland or ‘green behind the gold’ only a short drive from the city. The rolling hills, cool climate, peace and quiet is the perfect setting for the wineries located in Canungra and Mount Tamborine. Recently I visited a few of the wineries; O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards and in Tamborine Witches Falls, Aussie Vineyards and the MT Brewery. Each winery offers tastings in their cellar doors, giving visitors chance to learn a little about each of their wines and try before purchasing. O’Reilly’s winery is amazing on a Sunday, with live music you can sit on the terrace of their heritage house, haev a delicious meal from the restaurant and watch the day go by.

Carnival Australia cruise ship to be based in Brisbane

Good news for Brisbane, on November 6 it was announced that Carnival Australia will base a second cruise liner in the city.

From March 2010 the P&O ‘Pacific Sun’ will join the ‘Pacific Dawn’ to accommodate for the increase in demand in Queensland for cruise holidays. It’s expected the new addition will bring 18,000 passengers and crew to Brisbane, resulting in a $10 million dollar boost to the local economy. That’s great news to Brisbane and Queensland as a whole, hopefully we’ll have some of the cruise passengers visit the Gold Coast!

There are several ways to get to Anacapri from the Brisbane or Gold Coast airport. Possibilities include the Air Train, transfers, bus or taxi.

From Gold Coast Airport
The Gold Coast Airport is 22 km from Surfers Paradise.
